Business Objective:
The role of the Release of Information (ROI) Patient Information Representative is to provide technical coordination and support for patient (or their authorized representative), internal and external providers, and health care entities and/or payers requiring access to protected health information. This employee will assist with the release of patient information by preparing and scanning all necessary documents, and then passing it long to the ROI Specialist for release. The Patient Information Tech must demonstrate knowledge of all state and federal laws as well as applicable regulatory guidelines for ROI.
Job Responsibilities:

  • Using electronic tools and historic microfilm and/or paper records, prepares information for release and is compliant with all state and federal laws, HIPAA mandates and Health System policies by evaluating requests for health information from patients and third parties.

  • Handles all requests and inquiries for patient health information whether received via mail, fax, phone, MyChart, EpicCareLink, or any other electronic means.

  • Ensures the requesting party has a legal right to request a patient's medical information.

  • Prioritizes release of information requests, retrieves medical records from active and inactive and interdepartmental locations, electronically tracks and delivers records in accordance with established procedures.

  • Provides excellent customer service by being attentive and respectful; ensures understanding of customer request and follows through as promised. Is proactive in identifying client concerns or problems and resolves customer service problems in a polite manner

  • Provides patients with education and information on the Patient Portal and assists patients and providers with initial and re-enrollment to the Patient Portal.

  • May assist other health care providers and entities with obtaining healthcare information using the most efficient mechanism and considering the requestors preferred delivery method

? At least 1 year of Medical Record Experience RHIT or RHIA preferred.
? Knowledge of HIPPA laws and regulations

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
